Manila, 8 March 2010 – Continuing its role as the primary moving force behind the country’s efforts to place gender concerns at the heart of all development initiatives, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), formerly National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW), leads the 2010 National Women’s Day Celebration today.

To celebrate this occasion, PCW, headed by Chairperson Myrna T. Yao, and the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE), led by Mr. Joey Concepcion, have organized the second Go Negosyo Women Entrepreneurship Summit, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the National Livelihood Development Corporation (NLDC), to further enhance women’s economic empowerment. The About 15,000 participants are expected to join today’s event at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, a staunch supporter of women’s economic empowerment, will grace grace the occasion and will deliver a statement in support of the Women’s Month Celebration and her economic agenda to improve the lives of the country’s microentrepreneurs.

The second Go Negosyo Summit is projected to be bigger than last year’s feat. There will be more negosyo tips, bolder business ideas and advice from experts, over 400 booths and exhibits, and more games to be joined by celebrities. Successful women entrepreneurs and women leaders are set to share their experiences to encourage more women to engage in business, assert their rights and make their dreams happen. Aside from learning from the seminars and fora with inspiring women entrepreneurs, participants will also be enjoying the performances from several of the country’s top performers.

“The International/National Women’s Day is the time to highlight the needs and concerns of women in national, regional and global agenda. The country joins the global community in commemorating the acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of women’s rights”, says PCW Chairperson Myrna T. Yao.
